The money monument
Created for the Republic of Brexitopia exhibition in 2017, a monument to celebrate our future currency “the Brexit” which will replace the devalued pound. The Bank of Brexitopia will double as a laundry service to make ends meet. No questions asked. Visitors were invited to mint their own Brexits coins.
Ghost Tower- a kinetic and auditory installation for "I Dreamed I saw Saint Augustine" exhibition in Hackney. The installation evokes a dream-like state where one might wander inside the medieval St Augustine's Tower in the dark, alone, while spaces and objects transform themselves in melodramatic ways resonating with references to Hammer films fantasies evoked with lurid colours and preposterous transmutations.
Tree of Knowledge
Conceived as a celebration of human intellectual achievement and as a repost to those traditions that seek to put limits on human knowledge. A site specific installation for the restored Anglican chapel at Nunhead Cemetery in South London. It is composed of hundreds of uniquely created tiles arranged in panels of 20. These panels can be hung in any arrangement. Seven branches of knowledge are represented on the panels- cosmology, biochemistry, palaeontology, archaeology, botany, neuroscience and immunology. The motifs for each panel were selected on the basis of extensive research into the subject area. For instance the panels on biochemistry feature structural representations of the 4 nucleotides that make up the DNA “alphabet” ; the palaeontology panels feature actual fossils representing many eras; and the archaeology panels feature prehistoric art from different places in the world.
Compositions made by creating a single irregular “tile”, casting multiples of it, then interlocking and fusing the multiples to create distinct shapes. Each composition looks different from the others but is formed by applying the same rule. The variation in surface pattern is a combination of chance and design. Distinguishing which traces are meaningful and which are not goes to the heart of science. The human propensity to find meaningful patterns in the world (whether or not they actually exist) and the tremulous boundary between truth and self delusion is a challenge in a universe where there is no final authority of appeal.
